Valentine’s Day HeartOn Valentine's Day, the Flowers niche will kill you in terms of saturation.

So how do we get around the saturation for Valentine's day, when saturation is at its highest for the year?

Well, we could use long tail keywords or bid low and hope for stragglers. Or we could use a different angle altogether.

Lately (and I'll talk about this in later issues no doubt) I've been using unexpected angles when approaching campaigns that would otherwise be suicide to run. The Flowers campaign is definitely one of them. The idea in using unexpected angles is to use something not as an incentive but as a means to something else. Notice the difference there.

In no way is this limited to flowers. Go back to my previous post for a list of ideas on what to sell, but for the purposes of this post, I wanted to point out that you could potentially use an angle to get people interested in not just one thing, but multiple things.

For instance, if you were to bid on keywords for something less saturated than dating for Valentine's Day, say -- personalized items, you could use your angle you have to push other related items. Of course, you'll be extremely careful to do this tastefully and sparingly, but don't be afraid to give people what they're searching for.

Most of the time, when it comes to my landing pages, I value simplicity over all else because that seems to sell the best. So when I ready my landing pages for the two weeks preceding V-Day, I will use simplicity to its fullest extent but I will also give a bit of personal advice. Yes, there's nothing like a bit of personal advice to someone desperate to find that special gift.

I might say something like "If you ask me, personalized items are a great way to go! When you give your special someone a personalized item along with a bouquet of flowers, they'll melt." Of course linking all the way. You get the picture. But again, keep it simple.

One thing about guys on Valentine's Day I'd like to point out in case you hadn't noticed: they freak out. That's right, most guys don't have a clue about what to get their girls. This is good news for you as you can give them even more advice with a nice "Need ideas?" link. Bam! Now you can work your magic on even more items (the chocolates, teddy bears, travel packages, etc.).

Use your imagination and put yourself in someone else's shoes. That's the best advice I can give.
